The Meeting in Albuquerque is at 10:30 am.
the priests who will leave from Gallup need to be ready to go at 8:00 am Wednesday morning.
If you wish to stay the night on Tuesday at the Cure of Ars house you are more than welcome. If you will be driving in, remember the time difference between Arizona and NM. NM is one hour earlier that AZ.
I think we can all travel together in one car from Gallup. I think there will be 5 of us. If we need another car we can adjust.
We are welcome to con-celebrate the Anniversary Mass of Fr. Ray Mahlmann in Grants on the way home. That Mass is at 7pm. There is reception dinner afterwards but that seems pretty late to me. Your thoughts? We will arrive back in Gallup around 10pm and all are welcome to stay again at the Cure of Ars house.
No one is obligated to anything in this schedule before or after the meeting, the purpose of the trip is the meeting.

Some information forwarded to me about taxes, salary etc.
I have been passing along questions about the differences between the amount of the take home salary between parishes. Deacon Hoy told me it would come down to one or two different causes. The most likely would be if one has opted out of the Social Security system, he would not be paying into that fund, part of our Governments benefits for retired people. If you pay into the system for about 4 years you can recieve benefits from the U.S. Government when you retire, even if you leave the country. He sent me this email and a memo. I hope this is helpful, you will want to discuss this with your tax preparer. Please contact Deacon Hoy if you need more information.
See you all next week!

Fr. Matt –
It appears that the discrepancy between the payroll of some of the international priests may be due to the fact that they have the option of opting out of the Social Security/Medicare system. This requires a certain number of quarters of working tin the system (I think 16) before being eligible for benefits at age 65. If one ops out of the system, it would have an impact of not taxing meal/lodging or salary. It is highly recommended that the priest find a local CPA to handle their taxes.
This was mentioned in the memo sent to parishes where international priests would reside (see attached.)
Dcn Jim
The memo Deacon Hoy refers to in the e-mail
For non US resident diocesan priests that are temporarily working in the Diocese of Gallup, payroll should be handled as follows:
They will need to take their visa and any other documentation to a local Social Security office. They will be issued an employee ID number (similar to a social security number).
They need to fill out the normal government forms (W-4, I-9, etc.).
If they are receiving a car (loaned or leased) from the Diocese or CPF, then the parish should send the priest’s car allowance directly to the sponsoring entity (diocese or CPF). But it is still part of his taxable income.
The priest should receive all normal benefits that a diocesan priest would receive (groceries, gas, auto maintenance, etc).
The priest’s wages (salary, car allowance, stipends, etc) are considered taxable income for Federal Income Tax and State Income Tax.
The priest will receive a W-2 at the end of the year.
If the priest chooses, he may opt out of the Social Security and Medicare system. If this is the case, he would not need to file any additional paperwork, but at the end of the year, he would file an IRS form 1040NR instead of a form 1040. He is not liable for self-employment tax either.
If he decides to pay into the Social Security and Medicare system, then his housing is also taxable for this and he should be treated exactly as any diocesan priest.

ATTENTION NEW DATE WEDNESDAY MAY19
We had to change the day of the Meeting with Pamela Kennedy to Wednesday May 19.
Any of you who wish to stay at the Cure of Ars House on Tuesday night are welcome, (Wednesday too!) We need to be there in Albuquerque at 10:30 AM. If any of you wish to participate in Fr. Mahlmann's anniversary Mass at Grants that evening it might be a nice fraternal gesture to go as a group.
